Our Special Mission for the month of June is the NJ Community Food Bank which  distributes 43 million pounds of food a year to more than 1,000 non-profit programs, as well as more than 400 programs served by its partners. Through combined efforts, 900,000 people in New Jersey are fed. It is the state’s largest anti-hunger and anti-poverty organization and has been in service in our state for 45 years. It is a clearing house for food programs across the state, supplying local food banks (including our own 12 Baskets), soup kitchens, shelters, and children’s after-school programs with nutritious food, hygiene supplies, and SNAP pre-screening and application assistance. They also run a food service training academy which teaches food service skills. Through partners, they provide food for children when the school lunch programs are not in session. Food is also provided through senior citizen programs. Community Food Bank is also involved in food rescue – gleaning from groceries perfectly good food that would otherwise be thrown out. Please see their website, www.cfbnj.org, for more information and send your financial support to the church from where it will be forwarded to the Food Bank. Send your check to the church marked “mission” or “food bank.”

Barbara Aspinall

The Mission of the Month for May will be Presbyterian Disaster Assistance. PDA is an organization of our church which enables congregations and mission partners of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) to witness to the healing love of Christ through  caring for communities adversely  affected by crises and catastrophic events whether they are the result of natural occurrences like typhoons and tornados or human-made like the     situations in Ukraine and Ethiopia. PDA supports projects that address emergency needs like food, water, medical care, sanitation and shelter. At the moment, PDA is providing services directly and with mission partners in Ukraine, the Philippines, Ethiopia, and the places in the US that are suffering weather related  disasters like the  tornados in December that hit Tennessee and  Kentucky and hurricane Ida and flooding in North Carolina. If you would like to participate in this ministry, you can send a check to the church marked “PDA” or “May Mission.”
