The Session at its last meeting decided that we can make wearing masks optional in the worship service. We will continue to try to sit apart from one another.

2022 10 30 Like water on parched ground

October’s special mission is Homeless Solutions, a vital ministry in Morristown which serves those who find themselves, for various reasons, without a place to live. This can happen very quickly if the major wage earner has a medical crisis or is disabled and there is nobody to help. Homeless Solutions provides temporary housing to such a family until they are back on their feet again.  Homeless Solutions also provides education and counseling, always with the goal of helping people become independent once again.

Homeless Solutions addresses the problem of homelessness in different ways. For some women and children, the Family Shelter Program provides case management, parenting education, connection to medical care, childcare, domestic violence support and transportation for about 60 children and 47 women each year. The Safe Haven Shelter Program provides shelter and services for homeless people who are mentally ill and can house up to 20 men and women at a time for 50-60 individuals per year. The Men’s Shelter Program provides shelter for 25 men at a time and serves about 115 men each year.  The program helps with case management services, money management training and placement in permanent housing. The Transitional Housing Program helps families move from dependence to independence by providing temporary housing along with help eradicating the underlying causes of homelessness and structured supervision to foster self-sufficiency. These folks are housed in 10 apartments. Homeless Solutions also operates the historic Mt. Kemble Home for senior women of limited means. It provides safe, affordable housing for 22 residents. If you would like to help with this important ministry, send a check made out to the church but marked “Homeless Solutions” or “mission” and it will be forwarded through our treasurer.
